Chico State starting pitcher Nick Baker was 2-0 on the week and held opponents to a .222 batting average as the Wildcats took four of five games. Baker, a true freshman from La Quinta (Palm Desert High School), allowed just 13 baserunners in 13 innings of work (10 hits, one walk and two hit by pitch) while striking out nine.

Baker allowed two runs on six hits in six innings during last Monday’s 5-4 win against Montana State-Billings. He struck out six and walked one. He went seven innings in the 6-3 series finale win at Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday, surrendering three runs on just four hits. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out three.

Baker improved to 3-0 in four starts with those two efforts. He’s struck out 14 and walked just two on the season.

Baker hopes to continue his winning ways when the Wildcats hit the road for a four-game series against West Region rival Western Oregon beginning Friday.
