Rick Hoskin joined Chico State Athletics in March 2023 as the Senior Athletics Communications Coordinator. He serves as the media contact for the department’s administration and for several sports, including baseball, women’s basketball, volleyball, women’s golf, men’s cross country, and men’s track & field. Hoskin also oversees strategic communication efforts, video content, and media relations across platforms, playing a vital role in elevating the Wildcats' brand presence.
He is a member of the Chico State Athletics Hall of Fame Board of Directors and currently chairs the nomination subcommittee. Since arriving, Hoskin has helped oversee Chico State’s transition from the CCAA Network to FloSports, enhancing visibility and broadcast quality for the department’s live events.
With nearly 20 years of collegiate athletics communications experience, Hoskin’s career spans NCAA Divisions I, II, III, and the NAIA, reflecting a diverse and accomplished background.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (2015–2023)
Hoskin spent eight years at Cal State Dominguez Hills, serving as Assistant Athletics Director for Communications from 2016 to 2023. He directed the athletic department’s publicity, visual branding, and media relations efforts across 10 sports. He was the primary contact for baseball, men’s basketball, volleyball, and golf, and oversaw all Sports Information and Game Management operations.
He pioneered live video streaming for the CCAA Network, helping set broadcast standards for the entire conference. His work included managing multi-camera productions, integrating lower-thirds graphics, and posting social media highlights. Hoskin also authored and redesigned record books, created a student-athlete planner, and led branding initiatives—designing the department’s 50th anniversary logo and new gym court layout.
He served as the media representative during the Toros’ historic 2022 NCAA Division II Softball Championship runner-up finish and contributed to national championship coverage for multiple teams. He was twice selected to serve on COVID-19 task forces to guide a safe return to competition.
Davenport University (2012–2015)
Hoskin began his leadership career at Davenport University in Michigan, where he served as Assistant Director of Sports Information under Aaron Sagraves before being promoted to Interim Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications. At Davenport, he managed communications for a 29-sport department, oversaw a $61K annual budget, and led a five-student staff.
During his tenure, he led media relations for women’s basketball’s NAIA Tournament title game run in 2013 and semifinal finish in 2014, and supported coverage for the men’s soccer team’s NAIA National Championship appearance in 2014. He also coordinated media operations for the 2015 NAIA Baseball Opening Round.
Hoskin grew the program’s digital footprint by increasing social media engagement by nearly 50%, enhanced video broadcast quality, and contributed to the university’s successful pursuit of NCAA Division II membership.
Gonzaga University (2010–2012)
While earning his Master’s degree at Gonzaga University, Hoskin served as a Graduate Assistant in the Sports Information Office under CSC Hall of Famer Oliver Pierce. He worked with 16 sports and was the primary contact for baseball, women’s soccer, indoor track, and tennis.
He played a key role in promoting baseball standout Marco Gonzales to national award recognition, supported media coordination at the 2011 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament, and contributed to nationally televised coverage of Gonzaga baseball on ESPNU.
Union College (2009–2010)
At Union College in New York, Hoskin was hired into a newly created Sports Information Assistant role under another CSC Hall of Famer in Eric McDowell. He served as the primary contact for women’s ice hockey (Division I), as well as cross country, tennis, and swimming/diving (Division III). He improved the department’s online presence, designed promotional materials, and launched a youth activity book to increase community engagement.
University of Nevada (2007–2009)
Hoskin began his athletics communications career as a Media Services Intern for his now alma mater Nevada. He supported communications efforts for 18 sports while pursuing his undergraduate degree. He gained experience creating media guides, coordinate interviews, and assist with game-day operations for football, basketball, volleyball, and baseball.
He authored the 2008–09 Nevada Tennis Media Guide, gaining early experience in media production and layout design. Hoskin’s role also included producing rosters and schedules and assisting with press box logistics—helping lay the foundation for his career in athletics communications.
San Jose Earthquakes (1998–2005; 2008)
Hoskin got exposed to the business of sports at a young age thanks to his uncle, David, who served more than a decade with the San Jose Clash (now Earthquakes) as the Stadium Operations Manager. The younger Hoskin spent multiple summers working for club beginning as a Stadium Operations Coordinator from 2000 until the team's relocation to Houston in 2005. When the Earthquakes returned in 2008, he spent the summer serving as a Communications Intern under Jed Mettee. Throughout his time with the San Jose franchise, Hoskin was part of the team that did stadium setup, logistics, and maintenance, and was entrusted with operations for major events, including the MLS All-Star Game and the Silicon Valley Football Classic. As a Communications Intern, he gained valuable experience preparing game notes, press releases, and player biographies. He assisted with public relations during the team’s reintroduction into Major League Soccer, gaining valuable experience in a professional sports environment.
Additional Experience
Hoskin has served as a freelance statistician and media coordinator for NCAA events, worked CCAA Baseball Championships, and contributed to broadcasts at multiple collegiate levels. He also volunteered during the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Sweet 16 and Elite Eight in 2018.
Hoskin earned his Master of Arts in Sport & Athletic Administration from Gonzaga University in 2012 and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2009.
A native of the Bay Area, Hoskin grew up in Redwood City and had spent part time in Gardnerville, Nevada.
