Marcus Wilhite

A former standout collegiate player with deep Northern California roots, Coach Wilhite brings a strong competitive background and passion for player development to the Chico State softball program.

Wilhite concluded his collegiate career in 2019 as a redshirt senior, appearing in 30 games with 24 starts. Demonstrating versatility, he started 17 games as the designated hitter, five in left field, and two at first base. He finished the season batting .257 with 19 hits, 14 runs scored, and seven doubles. Among his top performances were a 3-for-4 outing with an RBI against San Francisco State and a 3-for-4 performance with a run scored against Stanislaus State.

During his redshirt junior campaign in 2018, Wilhite started 42 of 45 games and emerged as a consistent offensive contributor. He hit four home runs and delivered several clutch performances, including a three-double, three-RBI, two-run game against Cal State Dominguez Hills. He also went 3-for-5 with an RBI against Cal State Monterey Bay and drove in four runs on two hits in another matchup with Dominguez Hills.

Prior to completing his career at Cal State San Marcos, Wilhite excelled at Butte College, where he earned All-Conference First Team and All-Defensive Team honors in both 2016 and 2017. As a redshirt sophomore in 2017, he batted .374 with 58 hits, including 11 doubles, seven home runs, and a triple, while scoring 37 runs and driving in 43. He also stole seven bases and recorded two home runs in a standout 3-for-4 performance against Napa. In 2016, he hit .366 with 53 hits, tallying 10 doubles, five triples, and two home runs while plating 34 runs and recording 31 RBIs. His combination of offensive production and defensive excellence helped define his junior college career, highlighted by winning a conference championship—an accomplishment he considers his most memorable athletic moment.

Wilhite began his collegiate journey at Feather River College in 2015 before transferring to Butte College. During the summers, he competed for the Chico Nuts and Chico Heat, earning Most Outstanding Defensive Player honors and further sharpening his competitive edge.

A 2014 graduate of Oroville High School, Wilhite was a two-time All-League selection and a Senior Lions All-Star Game honoree. He batted .423 with a .521 on-base percentage as a senior and was recognized as Oroville High School’s Senior Athlete of the Year. A four-year, three-sport athlete, he also earned the Varsity Basketball Captains Award.

Coach Wilhite’s diverse playing background, competitive drive, and commitment to growth make him a valuable asset to the Chico State softball program.
