Personal
Born July 7, 2002, in Reno, Nevada…Daughter of Russell Barnum and Colleen Wallace Barnum…Has one younger sibling, Aedan…Her father is her hero (“He truly is what I believe is a superhero. I always would brag to my friends that my dad was a firefighter and that he saved all these people. As I have grown up, I see that all he does in life is heroic and I couldn’t do it without him”)…The person she most admires in the sports world is current pole vault world record holder Mondo Duplantis (“His dedication and love for the sport is something I look up to”)…Favorite course at Chico State is Observational Techniques, taught by Lindsey Nenadal…Chose to attend Chico State “because it is a beautiful campus, and the second I was introduced to the track & field family, I felt welcomed, I felt accepted, and I knew that it was a  place where I wanted to spend my academic and athletic career”…Her greatest sports moment is “when I was at a competition in Pocatello, Idaho, and I got a PR at the meet. I have never been so excited, and I was so happy to receive so much love and support from teammates, family and coaches!”…The most interesting thing she’s ever done is travel to Korea in 2018 for the Paralympic Games where her cousin Jack Wallace won a gold medal in the sport of sled hockey (“It was the most memorable experience I have ever had in my life”)…The most impressive thing she’s ever accomplished is “being able to stop doing gymnastics and pursue something that would genuinely bring me joy, even though it was scary to go out of my comfort zone”…Has learned by competing in track & field that “confidence in the face of fear will give you all the tools you need to succeed. Life can be scary sometimes, but how you counter that is what is important.”…Enjoys mountain biking, backpacking, exploring new places and spending time with her family and friends…Says the ability to work with little kids is one of her biggest non-sports talents…Loves to ski and be in the snow…At the top of her bucket list: “Travel to a foreign country and be able to teach little kids”…Best advice ever received came from her gymnastics coach: “Don’t cry, it won’t benefit you. It will only give you wrinkles”…Majoring in child development…Plans to attend occupational therapy school after graduating from Chico State.
