Personal
Born April 7, 1998, in Newport Beach…Daughter of Garrett and Crystal…Has two siblings, Garrett Jr. and Jocelyn…The person she most admires in the sports world is Serena Williams (“She has so much ferocity and is proud of who she is. Despite all the obstacles that she faced, from being one of the very few black women in a predominantly white sport, coming back after becoming a mother, or being harshly judged because she wasn't ‘feminine’ enough, she hasn’t let it affect her. She is an amazing athlete and keeps it real 100 percent of the time”)…Favorite course at Chico State is Biomechanics, taught by Dustin Bakkie…Her greatest sports moment: “At my junior college, I had competed in my first 400m during the sprint medley up in San Francisco. Going into it mildly unprepared turned into placing during state finals in the 400m. It was an opportunity that I probably never would have gone for if my coach hadn’t placed me in that sprint medley”…The most interesting thing she’s ever done is, despite not being able to swim, survived tubing down the Sacramento River…The most impressive thing she’s ever accomplished creating a fundraiser and after-school program at a foster care facility for her Girl Scout Gold Award…Has learned by competing in track & field that “not everything you do is going to be perfect, and there is always room to improve”…Enjoys rollerskating when she has some free time…Says “I'm really good at making my own things! Since all the free time with COVID I’ve sewn and crocheted a couple of outfits!”…Can play the piano…Loves autumn “because its full of my favorite color, orange”…At the top of her bucket list: “Go see the world, starting in Cairo”…Best advice ever received came from her mom: “Not everyone that comes into your life is going to like you”…Majoring in exercise physiology…Plans to continue on and attend a graduate program in occupational therapy.
