Personal
- Born May 25, 2000, in Paradise
- Daughter of Jeff and Kym
- Has one older sibling, Britny
- Singer/songwriter Ashley Frangipane (Halsey) is her hero: “I admire how loud she is about fighting for civil rights. She has also been through a lot of trauma in her life, and the way she’s responded to that is really inspiring”
- The person she most admires in the sports world is Abby Wambach (“for the positivity and leadership she shows on and off the field. I find her books to be very inspirational and I love how self-reflective she is. Even with the mistakes she’s made, I respect the way she responds and holds herself accountable”)
- Her favorite course at Chico State is Magazine Writing, taught by Stephen Caldes
- Why she chose to attend Chico State: “I loved the idea of finishing my soccer journey full circle. I grew up watching this team play, and I was a ball girl for them when I was little. The idea of playing under the Chico lights for my last years is really special to me”…Her greatest sports moment wasn’t necessarily her greatest achievement: “This past season when I was on the track team, I had a home meet and a bunch of my soccer teammates came out to watch. They were the loudest people there, cheering for me. I threw my season best (in the javelin) by 3.5 meters, which got me into the conference meet. When I went to greet them after, they were all chanting the number I threw. I felt so supported and loved”
- The most interesting thing she’s ever done is being a dual sport athlete (“Especially being that I had never done track or thrown javelin, it’s pretty crazy that I got to compete at a D-II level and throw javelin at conference. I am very grateful for this unique experience”)
- The most impressive thing she’s ever accomplished is balancing her two sports, studies, and extra-curricular activities (“Playing on both the soccer team and track & field team while getting all A’s is something I’m proud of. I had days where I trained five hours multiple times a week, then went home to do homework. During this time I also had an internship with a creative magazine and was coaching on the side”)
- Has learned by playing soccer and competing in sports to “find what brings you joy within things you can control. I’ve also learned to say yes to new experiences and embrace being out of my comfort zone”
- Loves art, and enjoys delving into creative writing, painting, drawing, sculpture and glass art
- Her biggest non-sport talents are her communication and writing abilities
- Is learning how to play the guitar
- Is bilingual in Spanish and English, and hopes to publish her writing in both languages
- At the top of her bucket list: “Paragliding”
- Best advice ever received came from one of her old teammates: “Other people’s opinions are none of my business” (“which really resonated with me and allowed me to release the worry of others interpretation of my actions”)
- Majoring in journalism
- Will begin her master’s program in English in 2023 while continuing to compete in track & field.
