Spencer Downey is in her second season as assistant coach for the Chico State women’s golf team. In her first year on head coach Heather Fegley’s staff, the former Wildcats standout helped the ’Cats reach postseason play in 2017–18.
 
This is the first coaching assignment of Downey’s career, and she brings to the job several years of experience as a player. The Central California native played two seasons at Chico State, posting a career 81.38 strokes per round average while notching seven top 10 tournament finishes, including two top 10’s. Downey played an integral part in the Wildcats reaching the 2013–14 NCAA Super Regional—the first time the program had reached postseason play in five years.
 
Prior to her time at Chico State, Downey played for two years at Modesto Junior College, leading the Pirates to a pair of North Regional championships. A 2011 graduate of Stoneridge Christian High School in Merced, Downey earned four All-League honors as a member of the boys golf team, and helped lead the Knights to four Mountain Valley League titles.
 
Downey has been a competitor in several other sports, logging time with the Chico State cycling team and the Sacramento Amazon Women’s rugby club.
 
Downey received her bachelor’s degree in animal science from Chico State in 2016.
