Chico State women's golf head coach Nick Green.

Nick Green

Nick Green is the Acting Head Coach for the Chico State women’s golf team. In his three years with the program, the Wildcats have set several records while notching 17 top five tournament finishes and earning two trips to the NCAA Championship Tournament. He also serves as the Head Coach for the Chico State men’s golf team, a position he assumed in September, 2016.

Under Green’s tutelage, the Chico State women finished the 2016–17 season ranked No. 27 in the Golf Stat’s national relative rankings and No. 10 in the West Region after posting seven top five finishes in nine tournaments. The Wildcats’ season efforts were rewarded with the program’s second straight NCAA Championship Tournament berth and third in four years.

Abbey McGrew wrapped up her Chico State career in impressive fashion. The senior averaged a team-best 76.8 strokes per round and racking up six top 10 tournament finishes, earning All-West Region honors from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). Fellow senior Bianca Armanini averaged 77.6 strokes a round and notched three top 10 tourney finishes, including a first place showing at the March 13-14 InterWest Wildcat Invitational.

Green’s 2015–16 Wildcat squad enjoyed a banner campaign, posting seven top five tournament finishes—including a victory at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational April 5-6—while breaking the program’s year-old record for lowest per-round team average (311.7). The ’Cats also set new school records for lowest single-round team score (288) and lowest two-round tournament score (582) at the season-opening Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate Sept. 21-22, 2015. The season ended with the Wildcats competing in the NCAA Championship Tournament West Super Regional at Brookside Country Club in Stockton.

In Green’s inaugural season at the helm, the Chico State women’s golf team posted three top 10 tournament finishes in 2014–15 and established a new program record by averaging 314 strokes per round. Dani O’Keefe led the team with a 76.6 strokes per round average to break Sarah McComish’s year-old school record by more than a stroke. O’Keefe further etched her name in the Wildcat record books by posting the lowest single round score (69) and lowest three-round tournament score (214) in the program’s history Oct. 4-5, 2014 at the GolfWeek Division II Preview.

Green has been involved with Chico State golf as either a player or coach for 15 years. Prior to taking over the program, Green spent seasons as assistant to former women’s head coach Kathy Dais, who retired at the conclusion of the 2013–14 campaign.

Green helped the Wildcats enjoy a productive 2013–14 campaign, winning two tournaments and finishing among the top five teams seven times. The ’Cats’ success resulted in the program’s first NCAA Championship berth in five years, a No. 5 West Region ranking and the No. 18 position in the season-ending Golf World/WGCA poll.

Green served as an assistant coach for T.L. Brown and the Chico State men’s golf team from 2007–09. As a college player, he was a member of the Wildcat golf program from 2003-07, posting a career strokes-per-round average of 76.2 and notching six top 20 tournament finishes. Green was just as impressive in the classroom, twice being named NCAA Academic All-American.

Green hails from Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was a four-time All-State athlete in golf while also garnering All-State recognition in basketball.

Green earned his bachelors’ degree in Exercise Physiology from Chico State and received his masters in Kinesiology in 2010.

Green is married to Lauren Green, an art teacher at River Valley High School in Yuba City.
