2015-16
Enjoyed one of the greatest cross country seasons by any Wildcat in the history of the program…Opened with a second place run at the Ash Creek Invitational, missing the win by less than a second…Placed 21st at the Stanford Invitational (6k time of 21:26) leading the Wildcats to a fourth place team finish…Won her first collegiate race with a victory in the 230-runner field at the San Francisco State Invitational…Finished as the overall runner-up two weeks later on the same Golden Gate Park course at the CCAA Championships, finishing behind teammate McCall Habermehl – the 1-2 finish helped the ’Cats achieve their eighth straight team title…Placed third in the West Regional Championships leading Chico State to the regional title and winning All-West Region accolades…Concluded the season at the NCAA Championships with a sparkling 12th place run (a 6k PR mark of 20:49, the best ever by a Wildcat at nationals and the fastest ever recorded by a Chico State runner) to earn All-America honors and lead the ’Cats to a fourth place team finish…On the track, Gastelum sustained an early season injury that severely limited her training and racing schedule in the spring…Opened her season with a 17:43 5k rust buster at Cal’s Brutus Hamilton Invitational…For the second year in a row lost a close battle with UC San Diego’s Paige Hughes while placing second overall in the CCAA Track & Field Championship’s 10k final (36:07 final time)…Would place eighth the following day in the conference meet’s 5k final with a time of 17:46…Concluded the season by recording an NCAA provisional mark (17:18) in the 5k at the West Coast Last Chance Invitational.
2014-15
The Wildcats’ No. 2 runner at the Stanford Invitational, placing 58th...Finished 10th at the Charles Bowles Invitational in a cross country 5k personal record (PR) time of 18:21...Took 53rd with a time of 21:41 at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational...Earned first All-CCAA Honor with a 14th place finish at the CCAA Championships...Earned All-West Region honors with a 24th place finish at the West Regional Championships…Took 70th place on a muddy Louisville course at the NCAA Championships to conclude fall season...Enjoyed her first track season since joining the ’Cats due to past years of injury…Won her 10k debut at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 36:34…Ran a 4:45 PR in the 1500 meters at the Chico Twilight Invitational...Stopped the clock at 17:46 at the Brian Clay Invitational…Just missed winning the 10k at the CCAA Championships, earning a 30-second PR of 36:04 and posting the eighth fastest time in school history…Bounced back a day later, barely missing a top-three finish in the 5k (by .05 seconds) with a time of 17:29.
2013-14
Enjoyed a breakout season in 2013…Opened season with a 37th place finish at the Sundodger Invitational with a time of 22:36…Placed 69th at the Stanford Invitational…Finished 10th at the Triton Invitational…Finished 18th at the CCAA Championships, missing All-CCAA honors by less than two seconds…Ran 26th at the West Regional Championships, helping secure the ’Cats’ 14th straight trip to the NCAA Championships…Finished 156th in her first NCAA Championship race to end her cross country season…Missed the track season due to injury.
2012-13
Redshirted on the trails and track as a true freshman...Finished 220th at the Stanford Invitational with a 24:14 in her first 6k cross country race...Enjoyed her best race of the season at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational with a 19:02 5k performance, good for 34th place in the Open race...Finished 49th at the Doc Adams Invitational with a 23:56 6k time…On the track ran to a 5:08 1500m at the Wildcat Invitational...Posted a time of 19:17 in the 5000m at the Chico Distance Carnival and doubled back with a 5:10 effort in the 1500m the following afternoon.
Pre-Chico Days
A 2012 graduate of Douglas High School in Gardnerville, Nevada…Placed fourth in her regional and 11th at the Nevada State Championships, missing a top 10 finish by one second…Boasted an impressive 18:49 best time on the Stanford Invitational course in Palo Alto.
