Personal
- Born November 12, in Marlton, New Jersey
- Daughter of Stephen Dear and Aase Erickson
- Has one older sister, Eva
- Her dad is her hero (“I can see how hard he works constantly and how much he loves the people around him. I strive to be like him when I grow up”)
- The person she most admires in the sports world is steeplechase runner Emma Coburn (“Not only has she been dealing with the pressure of racing professionally, but also her mother has stage 4 cancer. I can see she’s been struggling in the past year in running, but she seems to be gaining confidence every time she races”)
- Favorite class at Chico State is General Chemistry, taught by Stephen Hillyard
- Why she chose to attend Chico State: “I love the campus and Bidwell Park. I enjoy walking around to my classes and I love the smaller campus. Also, the fact that I actually have shade on my runs now is a lifesaver. There’s so much to see outside in Chico that makes me really appreciate living here”
- Her greatest sports moment was finishing 12th in the state cross country meet and breaking the 19 minute mark on her 18th birthday (“It was a great birthday present to myself”)
- The most interesting thing she’s ever done is travel all over the U.S. and to several foreign countries (“I’m hoping to add to that list this winter and summer”)
- The most impressive thing she’s ever accomplished is going to college (“Not everyone gets the opportunity to do that”)
- Has learned by competing in distance running to “just keeping going. I’ve had a lot of setbacks in this sport mentally and physically, but I’ve always stuck with it because I know how much I truly love the sport”
- Enjoys going shopping (“I have an addiction”) when she has some free time
- Her biggest non-sports talent: “Having a really loud voice”
- Has dyed her hair every color except neon yellow
- At the top of her bucket list: “Visit Iceland”
- Best advice ever received came from her best friend Mark: “Sometimes to slay, you need to sleep”
- Majoring in mechanical engineering
- Wants to do something creative and “work in a field that makes me feel like I’m helping the community with what I’m engineering.”
