As a player, Kristin Worley made an indelible impression in the Chico State softball record books. She will no doubt continue to make her presence known as a Wildcat, but this time on the sidelines. Worley officially begins her softball coaching career as part of Angel Shamblin’s staff in 2022.
Â
The Southern California native joins the coaching ranks following a memorable four-year career at Chico State, where she helped lead the Wildcats to three straight postseason appearances, as well as the 2018 NCAA Division II West Region and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) titles.
Â
Beginning as the ’Cats’ starting center fielder as a freshman and finishing her career as one of the top shortstops in Division II softball, Worley earned three First Team All-CCAA honors, was named to three All-West Region teams, and was twice included on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 50 Watch List for the D-II Player of the Year award.
Â
Though the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly wiped out half of her senior season—and effectively ending her playing days as a Wildcat—Worley was still able to set new Chico State career records in stolen bases (110), runs scored (148), and batting average (.378), and her total of 196 hits was just 36 shy of becoming the ’Cats’ all-time hits leader.
Â
Besides her many record-breaking individual achievements, Worley also established herself as a proven winner. In the 179 games she was on the field from 2017–20, Chico State lost just 41 times, resulting in an eye-popping .771 winning percentage.
Â
Prior to joining the Wildcats, Worley was a prep standout at Savanna High School in Anaheim, leading the Rebels to four straight Orange League titles. She was a four-time Orange League MVP and All-CIF selection, was twice named MaxPreps Small Schools Player of the Year, received Orange County Athlete of the Year accolades, and garnered First Team All-County and Second Team All-State honors. Worley set the California state record for career hits (281), and her career runs and stolen base numbers still rank among the top five in Southern Section history.

Worley earned her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Chico State in 2021.
