Bailey Akins begins her college softball coaching career as a member of Angel Shamblin’s 2020 Wildcats staff.
The Red Bluff native joins the coaching ranks on the heels of an outstanding playing career that established her as one of the top sluggers in Chico State softball history. In her two years with the Wildcats, Akins blasted 22 round-trippers to rank second on the program’s career home run list. Her 16 bombs in 2018—including two against Southern Arkansas in the NCAA Championship final—set a new Chico State single-season record, and she ranks third all-time in career slugging percentage (.576).
A two-time All-CCAA selection at third base, Akins helped lead the Wildcats to the 2018 CCAA and NCAA West Region championships.
Akins began her college career at Simpson University in Redding and was a major contributor to the Red Hawks’ back-to-back California Pacific Conference title teams. A 2015 graduate of Red Bluff High School, Akins was a two-time First Team All-Eastern/Sacramento River League and First Team All-Northern Section selection, and led the Spartans to the 2014 Northern Section championship.
Akins is currently working on completing her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Chico State.
