Makenzi Laporte enters her second year as a graduate assistant coach with the Chico State men's and women's golf programs in 2026–27. In addition to assisting both golf programs, Laporte also works in athletics communications.
During her first season on the coaching staff in 2025–26, Laporte assisted head coaches Nick Green and Heather Fegley-Birchmier with the day-to-day operations of the men's and women's golf programs. On the men's side, the Wildcats captured the CCAA Championship and produced the CCAA Coach of the Year, CCAA Player of the Year and CCAA Freshman of the Year. On the women's side, Chico State competed in 10 tournaments and hosted its first home tournament since the 2016–17 season.
Laporte joined the coaching ranks following a stellar four-year career as a two-sport student-athlete at Chico State. The 2024–25 Chico State Athletics Female Athlete of the Year, she spent the majority of her collegiate career starring on the women's basketball team. Laporte helped lead the Wildcats to two NCAA West Regional appearances and earned All-CCAA honors twice, including First Team recognition as a senior and Second Team honors as a junior.
She became just the fifth player in Chico State women's basketball history to record 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career. Laporte finished her career ranked 10th in program history with 1,263 points and eighth with 612 rebounds.
Following the conclusion of basketball season, Laporte regularly joined the Chico State women's golf team in the spring. A four-year member of the program, she competed in tournaments throughout her collegiate career and represented the Wildcats at multiple CCAA Championships.
A native of Salinas, California, Laporte earned her bachelor's degree in Communication Studies from Chico State and is pursuing a master's degree in kinesiology.
