Pre-Chico Days
Running for coach Ivan Huff at Paso Robles High School, Berti developed into one of the top distance talents in the state…As a junior, Berti raced to a 15^th place finish at the California State Cross Country Championships, posting a 15:37 time over the 5k course...Went on to post PR’s of 4:17 and 9:31 for the 1600 and 3200-meter events to conclude his junior year on the track...Berti’s senior year brought huge breakthroughs in both sports...In the fall, placed 4^th in the D-3 Boys sweepstakes race at the Mt SAC Invitational with a 15:04 PR...Notched a sub-15-minute 5k  at the Stanford Invitational, and won his race by 30 seconds…Placed second at the Clovis Invitational with a 15:22 PR on the famed course...Concluded the season with a 14:42 CIF Finals run (3^rd place) and a 13^th place finish at State...Berti carried the momentum into his senior track season where he ran a state-leading 4:10 for the full mile, while winning the Azusa Meet of Champions race...Later recorded a 9:10 3200-meter PR at Arcadia despite being sick the week of the race...Finished the season with a 7^th place finish at the California State Championships in the 1600-meter event.
