2009 Men's Cross Country Roster

Michael Wickman

  • Height 5-9
  • Class Senior
  • Hometown Walnut Creek
  • Highschool Northgate HS

Biography

Without a doubt Wickman stands as the most decorated Wildcat distance runner on the squad.  Michael has earned All-American honors on four separate occasions including one in cross country (’08) and three on the oval which include matching third place finishes at the ’09 NCAA track championships over the 800 and 1500m distances.  Given that Michael had to miss a good portion of running completely in Sept ’08 due to Mononucleosis, his eventual All-American run in Slippery Rock, Pa., was a great honor for a guy who most thought would be a mid-distance specialist.  Of course the speedy Wickman would turn on his jets in ’09, running to PRs at every distance. A week after winning both the 1500 and 800m events at the CCAA championships, Wickman rolled to a 3:44, 1:49.38 double for the 1500m and 800m distances.  As aforementioned, the junior recorded an impressive double at the NCAA meet placing third in his specialty events (800/1500m).  With his 3:44 standing as a USATF qualifier Michael continued his track season beyond the NCAA championships and recorded an impressive 3:43.52 time for the 1500m at the Chino Hills Festival of Miles meet in June ’09.  This mark stands as the third fastest 1500m in school history and places him just over a second behind former teammate Scott Bauhs who holds the school’s all-time mark.  Wickman competed at the USATF Championship meet, but was sick with bronchitis and failed to advance out of the semi-finals of the 1500m.  With a season of eligibility remaining in each sport Wickman is excited to add to the school’s tradition of distance success at the NCAA level.

Track Best Marks:
