Biography

2017–18
Finished 19th overall in the Riverside Invitational open race with a 25:47 finish time… Raced to a 25:28 finish at the Capital Cross Challenge, where he finished 54th overall…Concluded a brief fall season with a 15:00 5k in the team’s postseason track time trial…On the track, opened the season with a heat-winning 1:51 800m at the Hornet Invitational…Enjoyed a 3:48/1:50 double at the Stanford Invitational for the 1500/800 events…Won the 800m at the Chico Distance Carnival with a windy 1:51 mark…Lowered his seasonal best and secured a second trip to the NCAA Championships with a 1:50.00 seasonal best at the Bryan Clay Invitational…Competed in four events in two days at the CCAA Championships, netting a third place finish (and all-conference honors) in the 1,500m final and a fourth place effort in the 800m (1:53)…Finished third in the 800m (1:50.00) at the Portland Last Chance…Named All-West Region in both the 800 and 1,500…Concluded the spring with a huge 800m PR of 1:48.90 in his preliminary at the NCAA Championships…Unfortunately his time (which missed the CSUC school record by .01 seconds) earned him a fifth place finish in his heat, which mathematically eliminated him from the final, but was enough to earn Second Team All-America honors…Received CCAA All-Academic honors…Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team.
 
2016–17
After an opening 11th place finish at the Humboldt Invitational, injury wiped out the remainder of the 2016 harrier season…On the track, Morton opened the season with twin wins at the Wildcat Invitational recording a very impressive 3:51/1:52 double in the 1,500m and 800m…The Hornet Invitational brought a huge 1:49.60 PR in the 800, making Morton the seventh Wildcat in the history of the program to eclipse the 1:50 barrier…The San Francisco Distance Carnival brought a 3:46 PR for the 1,500 and a second place finish…The following day Morton recorded his second sub-1:50 800-meter run of the Carnival…Injury limited racing leading up to the CCAA Championships…Placed second behind teammate Michael Good in the 800-meter final at the conference meet, earning All-CCAA honors...Put a bow on the season with a 17th place finish at the NCAA Championships in the 800-meters.
 
2015–16
Opened the season with a 16th place finish at the Ash Creek Invitational in Monmouth, Oregon…Was the Wildcats’ second finisher at the Garin XC Challenge, placing fifth overall on the hilly 5k course with a time of 15:46…Placed a disappointing 58th overall at the San Francisco State Invitational…Concluded the fall with a 21st place run at the Doc Adams Invitational…On the oval, began the spring with an 800m time of 1:53 at the Sac State Hornet Invitational…Recorded a nice 3:52 heat win and 1,500m PR (3:52) at the San Francisco Distance Carnival…Recorded a 1:52 800m PR at the Chico Distance Carnival, and returned the next evening to place fifth in the 1,500m with a 3:55 mark…Raced to a 1:53.1 in the 800m at the Bryan Clay Invitational…Placed fifth in the CCAA Championship 1,500m final but narrowly missed making the final for 800m in the same meet…Concluded the season with a 4:04 1500m at the West Coast Last Chance Invitational…CCAA Spring All-Academic award winner.
 
2014-15
Redshirted in both cross country and track as true freshman…Finished fourth overall at Willow Hills Open, running a 16:00 5k on the hilly course…Placed 80th in the open race at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, finishing the 8k course in 27:05...Placed 30th at Doc Adams Invitational 8k in 26:49…On the track, opened the season with a 3:05 split in the 1,200-meter portion of the distance medley relay during the team’s Red vs. White intersquad meet…Sickness hampered much of the remainder of the season…Ran a 1:54 800m at the Chico Distance Carnival…Won his 1,500-meter heat at the West Coast Last Chance meet, clocking in at 4:03.

Pre-Chico Days
One of the most decorated distance runners in the San Diego Section, Morton was a standout runner in cross country and track at Mt. Carmel High School…During his senior cross country season won the Jaguar Kit Carson Invitational individual title, posting a time of 15:43…Placed third individually at the San Diego Section Championships to lead the Sundevils to the section championship and state meet berth…On the track, proved to be one of the best mid-distance runners in the state…His 1:53 PR in the 800m was one of the fastest dual meet performances of the year statewide…Lost the 1600m title by just .02 seconds at the San Diego Section Championships…Clocked another two second PR in the State Championship 1600m prelims (4:11.11) to qualify for the state final, where he would post an 11th place finish.
