Biography

2009-2010: Injuries contributed to a frustrating cross country season as a junior…Finished 92nd at the Willamette Invitational (26:12)…On the track, posted a seasonal best 1:51.9 while finishing second overall in the 800m at the Chico Twilight meet…For the third straight year finished among the CCAA’s top three at the conference Championship meet, helping the Wildcats to another championship…Seasonal best time of 1:51.9 missed making the NCAA championship by less than .05 seconds…Finished the season by recording his second best time ever at the Southern California USATF Championship meet, posting a time of 1:51.04.

2008-2009:
Started the season with a 25:09 8k PR in the team time trial and ran among the team’s top seven in several big invitationals…A time of 25:36 and a 22nd place finish  at the Willamette Invitational was regarded as his best performance of the season…On the track, won the Chico Twilight in the 800m, posting a seasonal best 1:51.55…Second place run in the CCAA Championship 800m final once again placed him in the thick of a Wildcat 1-5 sweep…Qualified for first NCAA Championship with a 1:51 mark in the Chico Twilight Invitational…Finished with the 15th best time in the NCAA Championship preliminaries.

2007-2008:
Finished 20th overall at the San Francisco State Invitational to help Wildcats win the event…On the track, redshirted sophomore season…Time of 1:50.78 in the 800m was the fastest by a Wildcat…Posted a 3:57 1500m PR as well.

2006-2007: Redshirted freshman cross country season…Recorded a 26:02 8k PR at the Stanford Invitational and a 34:02 10k at the season-ending Almond Bowl run.  On the track, ran 1:53.7 to win the Chico Twilight Invitational’s 800m event…Several weeks later Hayes dropped his PR to 1:52.08 while finishing second to teammate Brian Nelson at the Payton Jordan Invitational…Placed third in the CCAA Championships 800m final in the middle of the Wildcat 1-5 sweep.

High School:
As a senior at Deer Valley HS in Antioch, enjoyed considerable success in both cross country and track…In cross country, Hayes ran in the 15:40’s on the Hayward NCS Championship Course and qualified for the State Championships…On the track, recorded a PR of 1:53 for 800m while winning the NCS Championship.
