2009 Men's Cross Country Roster
Biography
After redshirting his freshman season, Scanlon enjoyed a very fine year of racing --capping his first season of running with a 20th place NCAA finish in Joplin, Mo. Despite an early season bout of Mononucleosis, during the following track season Brendan still managed a solid 30:44 run over the 10k distance. Fall ’08 was shaping up to be an incredible season for the sophomore, as Brendan enjoyed solid runs at several invitationals and finished second overall in the CCAA meet behind teammate and eventual NCAA champ Scott Bauhs. Brendan carried this momentum into the regional meet where he had his sights set on a Top 5 finish and appeared well on his way, until the well publicized regional-fiasco that involved the lead bike going the wrong direction and the race stopped just short of four miles to go. It was during the second 10k of the day that Brendan’s hamstring clenched and he slid from his position among the top 3-4 overall, to an eventual top 40 finish. Scanlon was still injured at the NCAAs, but fought hard to place inside the top 60 for the ‘Cats, which still scored, and helped the team to a third place team finish. Now with good health and the motivation of strength of overcoming the adversity from his sophomore campaign, Scanlon is excited to return to action and hopefully a top NCAA finish as well.
