Ashton Pomrehn is in his second season as part of Chico State men’s basketball coaching brain trust. Pomrehn joined head coach Greg Clink’s staff as an assistant prior to the 2019–20 season, and in his first year with the program helped guide the Wildcats to a CCAA Tournament berth while also earning an NCAA Championship Tournament bid.
Before coming to Chico, Pomrehn spent the 2018–19 as part of the Humboldt State coaching staff. The Arcata native helped guide the Lumberjacks to a 17-14 record and a CCAA Tournament appearance.
Pomrehn immediately entered the coaching ranks following a college playing career that featured stops at Shasta College in Redding, Alaska Anchorage, and Humboldt State. He earned 2015–16 First Team All-Golden Valley Conference honors at Shasta, then became a key member of the Alaska Anchorage backcourt the following season. Pomrehn transferred to Humboldt State for his senior year in 2017–18, leading the Lumberjacks with 47 3-pointers and earning the program’s Jerry Paul “Pit Bull” award.
Pomrehn played two years of varsity basketball at McKinleyville High School, and earned an All-Humboldt-Del Norte Big 5 League Honorable Mention as a senior. He was also named Second Team All-Area by the Eureka Times-Standard after leading the Panthers to the second round of the 2012–13 North Coast Section playoffs.
Pomrehn earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Humboldt State in 2018.
