Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)

17991

The Chico State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, better known as SAAC, is made up of at least two representatives from each of the department's 13 sports. Members of SAAC participate in many community service events, act as a liaison between their team and the athletic department administration, and represent the department at various on and off campus activities.

What is a SAAC?

A Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience and to offer input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes' lives on campus. It also provides an outlet for student-athletes from the various teams to come together and enhance the experience of being a student-athlete at Chico State.

What are the functions of the SAAC?

Though the focus of campus SAACs is intended to be more self-contained in nature, communication between our SAAC and those of other schools as well as the national SAAC, offers student-athletes the opportunity to shape the landscape of intercollegiate athletics.

Functions of campus SAACs:
Promote communication between athletics administration and student-athletes;
Provide feedback and insight into athletics department issues;
Generate a student-athlete voice within the campus athletics department formulation of policies;
Build a sense of community within the athletics program involving all athletic teams;
Solicit student-athlete responses to proposed conference and NCAA legislation;
Organize community service efforts;
Create a vehicle for student-athlete representation on campus-wide committees (e.g., student government);
Promote a positive student-athlete image on campus.

Here are some of the activities that SAAC participated in 2018-2019:
  • Canned Food Drives - Collected over 1,000 canned goods and donated them to the Hungry Wildcat Fund on campus.
  • Walk to End Alzheimer's - Participated in a community fundraiser to support the fight against Alzheimer's.
  • Chico State Creek Clean Ups - A fall clean up of Big Chico Creek between the amphitheater and the Warner Street bridge produced over 8 full bags of trash. A spring clean up totaled another six bags of trash.
  • Parkview School Trip - Participated in their annual "Laps for Learning" fundraiser, running laps with the kids and cheering them on.
  • It's on Us Sexual Assault Awareness Video- SAAC members created a short video highlighting the importance of sexual assault awareness and prevention.
  • HiYa! Rock Project- Supported the nonprofit Run4BittiamdBrynn which was established in memory of two Chico student-athletes who passed away. We helped spread positivity by paining rocks with positive messages and placing them around campus and handing them out to brighten people's day.
  • Volunteered at Rosedale Elementary's School fundraiser- Assisted their carnival event to raise funds for their school
SAAC Mental Health Campaign

2018 canned food drive
Every year, SAAC puts on a canned food drive to help our Wildcat Food Pantry on campus. We also compete with the other schools in the CCAA and came in 2nd this year, with a total of over 1,000 can donations!
To spread some kindness and color, Chico SAAC painted and gave out rocks after the Camp Fire to raise spirits on campus. This idea was started by the HiYa! Rock Project.
