Biography
2017–18
Began sophomore season of cross country with a 21:40 6k at the Riverside Invitational as the ’Cats third scorer on the day…Placed 46th on the day at the Capital Cross Challenge…Was 17th overall and the No. 3 Wildcats runner at the Western Washington Invitational, helping Chico State to a close runner-up finish…Just missed All-CCAA honors with a 16th place finish at the conference meet, but helped the Wildcats clinch the program’s 14th title in 16 years…Finished 40th in the NCAA West Region championships…Concluded the XC season with a 103rd place run at the NCAA Championships, helping the ‘Cats to a fourth place team finish…Ran only one race during the track season before injury concluded the campaign early…Earned three CCAA All-Academic awards…USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team selection…Received Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.
2016–17
Enjoyed a very impressive true freshman campaign on the cross country trails...Opened the season with a 16th place finish at the Humboldt Invitational, finishing as the ’Cats’ No. 7 runner…Scored for the team in each race to follow until the season’s end…Finished 38th at the Capital Cross Challenge in the DI-heavy field…The ’Cats’ second finisher at the Triton Invitational, taking 11th overall...Placed 7th in her first-ever CCAA Championships, earning All-Conference honors and the CCAA Freshman of the Year Award…Finished 25th at the NCAA Championship West Regional, capturing All-West Region honors and helping the team win the title...The ’Cats’ fifth and final scorer at the NCAA Championships, placing 59th overall to help the women earn their second straight fourth place team finish at nationals…On the track, Pizzella overcame nagging maladies to enjoy a very productive spring season…Opened the campaign with a 17:43 5k track debut at the San Francisco Distance Carnival…The following week featured a PR of 4:46 for 1,500 meters at the Chico Twilight Invitational…Trimmed her 5k PR to 17:39 at the Bryan Clay Invitational…Made her 10k debut successfully at the CCAA Championships, finishing second overall in 36:58 to earn All-CCAA honors…The season concluded with a 17:41 5k clocking at the West Coast Last Chance Invitational…Earned CCAA All-Academic honors.
Pre-Chico Days
Pizzella re-wrote the record books at Grass Valley’s Nevada Union High School in the distance events…Recorded an impressive 17:55 mark on the tough Crystal Springs course and was the conference’s cross country champion…Placed sixth overall at the Sac Joaquin cross country finals with an impressive 18:48 time on the 5k Willow Hills course…Concluded her senior cross country season with an 18:20 school record run at the State XC Championships, where she would place 25th overall…On the track, won another league title (this time in the 3,200m event) and recorded 5:04 and 11:02 PR’s for the 1,600 and 3,200m events.
