2012 T&F All-CCAA (Champion in the 10K)

2011-2012: Began the fall with a fine 24:31 clocking at the team’s early season 4-mile time trial...Opened season at the Willamette Invitational and placed 37th in 18:41 over the 5K course...Placed 100th at the Bronco Invitational to earn a spot on the CCAA championship team...Finished 23rd at the CCAA Championships, covering the 6K course in 22:16...Wrapped up the season with a 13th place finish at the Doc Adams Invitational and a terrific 5K team time trial in which she completed her first sub-18 minute run in 17:59...On the track, Varela had a breakout season...Notched PRs in every distance from 1,500 to 10K...Most impressive result was her 36:15 10K at the Mt. SAC Invitational, which made her the 7th fastest over that distance in Chico State history...Won the CCAA title in 10k at the championship meet.

2010-2011: Redshirted both sports as a freshman…Placed 23rd at the Doc Adams Invitational…Finished second in the open race at the Santa Clara Invitational…Ran an 18:32 5K at the Willamette Invitational…On the track, posted a PR of 18:18 at the Oxy Invitational 5K…Placed ninth in the Chico Twilight Invitational…Finished fifth in the San Francisco Distance Carnival 10K with a time of 38:29…Ran a 10:48 PR in the 3K at the Aggie Invitational.

High School: A talented runner at Trabuco HS in Rancho Santa Margarita…Led team to a seventh place Division I finish at the California State Meet in 2009, placing 40th with a time of 18:44…Recorded bests of 17:47 at Woodbridge and 18:30 at Mt. SAC, where she was 26th, leading Trabuco to a  fourth place finish…As a senior, clocked track bests of 5:22 in the 1600m and 11:42 in the 3200m.
