STOCKTON, Calif. – A long and challenging day in Stockton saw Chico State men's golf deliver a steady second round, positioning themselves just three strokes off the lead at the CCAA Championship.
Lightning in the area forced an extended delay of nearly four hours, halting play just before many golfers reached the turn. Despite the disruption, the Wildcats stayed composed and posted the low team score of the day at 288 (E), moving to 1-over through two rounds.
Cal State San Bernardino's lead shrank from more than six strokes to just three, while Cal State San Marcos sits in third after shooting 290 (+1), just one stroke behind Chico State heading into the final round.
Senior Giuseppe Aliotti led the charge with a 69 (-3), tying for the low round of the day and moving into fourth place overall. Despite a double bogey on the 16th hole, Aliotti maintained his composure and played a key role in keeping Chico State within striking distance.
Naoki Easterday faced a tougher round, carding a 76 (+4), but limited the damage to remain tied for fifth heading into the final day.
Freshman Ty Weaver turned in one of the most impressive performances of the round, firing a 69 (-3) to climb into a tie for eighth. In his first conference championship, Weaver showed poise, bouncing back strongly after his opening round.
Vineet Vallamsetty posted a consistent 74 (+2) in the challenging conditions and sits in 15th place, well-positioned for a move up the leaderboard.
Alex LemMon carded a 77 (+5), battling both course conditions and the weather delay, but remains a steady presence heading into the final 18 holes.
