'Cats Unable to Overcome Toros in OT

CHICO, Calif. – Despite four players scoring in double figures and a late rally to force overtime, the Chico State men's basketball team fell to Cal State Dominguez Hills, 97–92, in overtime on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, at Art Acker Gym. The Wildcats drop to 5–6 overall and 3–3 in CCAA play, while the Toros improve to 9–4 (4–2 CCAA).


How it happened

Chico State came out sharp offensively and carried a 40–36 lead into halftime, knocking down four first-half 3-pointers and matching Dominguez Hills in the paint.

The Toros responded with a big second half, leaning heavily on their interior game and free throws to erase the deficit. Chico State answered with timely shooting from Robel ZemmoMax Walters, and Cortevious Taylor, eventually tying the game at 86–86 in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime.

In the extra period, Dominguez Hills struck first and never trailed, outscoring Chico 11–6 in overtime. The Toros converted key free throws down the stretch, while Chico State was unable to capitalize on several late second-chance opportunities.

Jeremiah Dargan recorded his third straight game with 20-plus points, leading the team in scoring in his first season with the Wildcats. Robel Zemmo tallied a season-high 28 minutes, stitching together 17 strong points off of the bench—the junior transfer knocked down seven of his thirteen attempts from the field. 

Freshman Braddock Kjellesvig notched a career-high seven points in the overtime thriller, while making himself a strong presence under the basket with four offensive rebounds against a towering CSUDH squad.
