CHICO, Calif. – Topping off their senior day, the Wildcats steal the series closer to split the weekend and close out the 2025 season on a high note.
Despite the season's bleaker outcome, the 'Cats can take pride in the improvements made from the previous campaign in 2024. Rounding out the season with a 23-25 record overall and 15-23 in CCAA play, Chico State saw a ten-win jump from their overall record in the previous spring.
The Chico State Wildcat's pitching crew had the second-best combined outings in the season, finishing with a 2.34 team ERA, giving up the second least hits and runs throughout their season.
The Seawolves squeaked out the game-one win on the day 5-4 after the Wildcats posted three runs in the first inning. Bella Tavares and Chloey Swenson pitched a commendable outing with five combined strikeouts.
Senior Elisa Haas was responsible for two runs in the first inning after a single to center field that drove Marissa Anderson and Aiyana Curry to home plate. Both Anderson and Curry nabbed RBIs of their own throughout the game, both stepping up in big ways these past weekends.
Game two of the doubleheader was an outstanding showcase of the Wildcat's abilities to fight through the uncontrollable factors as the rain poured down, and they were forced to wait out the weather with a 2-1 lead in the second inning.
When the game resumed play, the Seawolves quickly added two runs on the board to take the lead. Despite the deficit, the 'Cats kept swinging, with their sole senior starting off an offensive spark with a triple to center field that tied up the game in the fourth inning.
The following offensive swap, the Wildcats picked up three more runs with RBIs from Hannah Levy, Aiyana Curry, and Marissa Anderson. With the lead intact, the visiting Seawolves tallied two runs of their own in the sixth, but their comeback was shortlived when Aiyana Curry blasted a hit over the center fielder's head, and the sophomore drove in three more runs for the four-run lead.
Three easily dispatched Seawolves in the top of the seventh handed Chico State their final win of the season and the perfect sendoff for their senior.
Amelie Valdez nabbed her eleventh win and twelfth complete game, rounding out the season with a 2.63 ERA and 85 strikeouts.
