Cold Bats From the 'Cats in Doubleheader with Coyotes

CHICO, Calif. - The Wildcats were finding it difficult to string together the offensive pressure today against the Coyotes, dropping the series' final two games on Saturday.

The Wildcats drop to 19-15 overall (11-12 CCAA) and sit in seventh place in the conference standings with three sets of games remaining.

Game 3 | Chico 0, CSUSB 2

Hannah Levy and Marissa Anderson were the sole Wildcats to nab hits in the tight opening loss on Saturday. Strong defensive players from the Coyotes were the game-changers as the 'Cats connected with pitches but struggled to squeeze hits through the gaps.

Freshman Anderson was the most effective on offense, getting on base on three separate occasions, two from walks.

Game 4 | Chico 2, CSUSB 11

The pitching staff had their work cut out for them in the series finale, as the 'Yotes went up ten runs in a blink of an eye by the third inning.

Aiyana Curry was able to drive Italia Abrenica home on a sacrifice fly to the right center. Abrenica was the leader in hits for the 'Cats, with two hits in her two plate appearances. Hannah Levy continued her strong offensive season, doubling down the left line to drive in Brianna Swihart.

The offensive dried up after their short burst of runs, as the Coyotes held off the Wildcats, eventually ending the game with the eight-run rule after the fifth inning.

Freshman Kara Valencia recorded the first hit of her college career in her second at-bat with the Wildcats, a notable highlight from the Saturday doubleheader.

Chico State will be in San Marcos for their next CCAA series, starting on April 4th, with their first game kicking off at 1 p.m. at CSUSM Softball Field.
