A Senior Day Showcase as Wildcats Sail by Cougars

CHICO, Calif. - Chico State men's basketball celebrated the incredible careers of four seniors that have brought so much energy, class and conviction to Chico State Athletics. The four honored players were Miles Daniels, Trae Taylor, Max Walters and Hugo Clarkin.

After taking down the Cougars 87-60 in front of an energetic crowd, the 'Cats finish second in the CCAA and will take on the winner of the first-round game between Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State LA. They will await the outcome, planning on their matchup for noon next Friday in San Marcos.

Trae Taylor has had a career week for the Wildcats, following his career high 32-point performance on Thursday, the junior followed it up with another high scoring and strong showing below the basket. Taylor went eight for nine from the field, and a commendable 11-for-15 from the foul line for a combined 27 points. His scoring was complemented by a strong set of rebounds, totaling eleven in his 30 minutes, recording a double-double.

The team finished Saturday's matchup with a collective 50-percent from the field, and a staggering 75-percent from the free throw line. Murphy was the leader from beyond the arc, shooting five-for-nine from three-point range.

Playing a strong supporting role, Isaiah Kerr assisted teammates on seven different occasions, making important plays that helped his squad pull away from the Cougars.

The 'Cats were consistently taking care of the ball on the offensive end of the court, recording only six turnovers, the second-least in a game all season.

Chico State's second place finish in the conference standings was the team's best regular season finish since 2021-22 when they concluded the season in a similar spot. This time around, they are looking to snatch the title and make a strong run in the NCAA DII West Regional after coming in third in the most recent poll.
