'Cats Split Saturday in Turlock

TURLOCK, Calif. - After a clean sweep of Friday's games, the Wildcats split the second day of the Tournament of Champions. A late-night night on Friday against ARTU was immediately met with an early-morning game against Vanguard to open up on Saturday. The 'Cats were able to pick up a win to close out the day against the Nighthawks of NNU with a solid shutout to continue climbing earlier into the season.

Game 3 vs. Vanguard

Despite dropping their first game of the season to the Lions, the Wildcats put up a valiant effort after a late night against the Urban Knights. Kylie Loertscher had another impressive day in the circle, recording nine strikeouts and no earned runs.

The 'Cats were having a tough time building their offense; Ali Lewis and Hannah Levy were the sole batters to tally hits.

Game 4 vs. Northwest Nazarene

Aiyana Curry devastated the Nighthawk's defense in the Wildcat's 3-0 win on Saturday, recording two RBIs on two hits, while Hannah Levy iced the game with a third RBI in the fifth inning. The win over NNU extends the Wildcats to 8-1 in non-conference play, boasting the third-best record in the CCAA.

Amalie Valdez pitched her fifth complete game while claiming her fifth win. Valdez refused to surrender an earned run against the Nighthawks while picking up her own hit at the plate.

The Wildcats showcased that the morning offensive slump was not a typical day for the 'Cats, recording nine hits and errorless on defense.

The Wildcats will close out the weekend in Turlock with a final non-conference game against Dominican at noon. This will close out their pre-conference section of the spring on Sunday and open up CCAA play with a home series against Cal State Monterey Bay starting on Friday.
