How it happened
After a scoreless first half that featured just three combined shots on goal, the visitors broke through midway through the second. Kaci Embree scored the game's only goal in the 69th minute, finishing a chance from inside the box to put Cal State San Marcos ahead.
Despite generating several late chances, Chico State was unable to find an equalizer. Kennedy Briseno made two saves for the Wildcats, while Cougar goalkeeper Emma Calvillo recorded a two-save shutout.
