SEASIDE, Calif. – The Chico State volleyball team got back on the win column Saturday after taking 3-of-4 at Cal State Monterey Bay (25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20) in the Kelp Bed.
 
Although Monterey Bay (1-8, 0-2 CCAA) outperformed Chico State (4-5, 1-1 CCAA) in the kill column, the Wildcats found the momentums at the right time to win the sets. The Wildcats won seven straight rallies in the middle of set one, five straight at the end of the second set and 11 in a row towards the end of the fourth game.
 
Six Wildcats were contributors to the attack. Kassandra Nall had 14 kills, Claire Nordeen and Cashe Olswang each had nine, Maria Wahl had seven, Gwyneth Wentzel had six and Kailie Flores had four.
 
Nordeen dished out 31 assists, missing a kill to complete a double-double.
 
Defense was also an all-around effort. Jessie Camarillo led the way with nine digs while Brynna Geibel and Jessica Ortiz both had seven. Flores made two blocks on her own and assisted with a pair.
 
Monterey Bay won the kill column 56 to Chico's 49, but the Otters committed 22 attacking errors.
 
After playing nine matches on the road to start the season, the Wildcats open up Acker Gym for the first time on Friday, taking on Cal Poly Humboldt at 5 p.m. The Lumberjacks are coming off a five-set upset against the defending national champions Cal State LA in Arcata tonight.
