TURLOCK, Calif. – After coming up one short from tying her career-best in her previous match, sophomore Kassandra Nall got over the mark with 19 but the Chico State volleyball team was swept in three tight sets by UC Merced, 21-25, 22-25, 23-25, in the opener of Stan State's Tournament at Fitzpatrick Arena Thursday afternoon.
Despite having lost all three games, the Wildcats (2-2) performed well on the attack, hitting .236 while committing 13 errors, three fewer than the Bobcats (2-3). UC Merced ended the day at .254 offensively.
Freshman Claire Nordeen continues climbing up the personal high in assists, this time recording 33 with only one miscue. Jessie Camarillo dished out 16 digs while Brynna Geibel and Nordeen each had nine.
The Wildcats return to the Stanislaus State campus Friday for a pair of matches, starting with NCAA Division II newcomer Menlo at noon, followed by a rematch with Dominican at 7:30 p.m.
