7/19/2024 1:38:00 PM

CHICO – The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced the 2023-24 Academic Awards, and the Chico State men's basketball team had three members find their names on the list of recipients.

The NABC Honors Court represents achievements by athletes in the classroom and as individual players. Recipients include juniors, seniors, and graduate students who finished the 2023-24 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher from all levels of college basketball.

"The NABC is proud to celebrate these accomplished student-athletes, along with the coaches and staff who champion success in the classroom," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "Education is a core value of the NABC, and the teams and athletes who earned these awards are proof that academic achievement remains a priority across every level of our sport."

Joshua Hamilton, Maxwell Walters, and Adam Afifi were the three Wildcats that earned recognition. Hamilton and Afifi ended the conference season as All-CCAA honorees; Hamilton was the lone First Team selection, and Afifi was on the Second Team.

Hamilton, a longtime member of the Wildcats program, recently graduated with his graduate degree in Social Science and was pivotal in the programs run to the NCAA West Regional. He finished his career at Chico State with over 1,000 career points and over 300 assists.

Afifi started all 29 games he appeared in this season, scoring 351 points, the third most on the Wildcats squad. Walters appeared in seven games with a season-high five points against CSUSM.

Maxwell Walters and Adam Afifi are pursuing degrees at Chico State in the School of Business. Walters is in finance, and Afifi is progressing toward a marketing degree.
