Ausbie Claims Field Athlete of the Week With Decathlon Provisional Mark

4/9/2024 3:10:00 PM

CHICO – The Chico State men's track & field team had to brave the elements in Turlock last week at the Stanislaus Multi, but the less-than-optimal weather did not matter for Jordan Ausbie. Ausbie had a career meet, winning the Decathlon, earning his second NCAA DII Provisional Mark, and nabbing four personal bests.

All of that success, and to add to it, Ausbie was awarded with the CCAA Field Athlete of the Week.

Earlier in the season, the junior from Cupertino leaped for a personal best in the long jump at the Hornet Invitational, earning him his first provo. In Turlock, Ausbie won the long jump and high jump events, giving him an impressive boost on the leaderboard. He was runner-up in the 100m, 400m, and javelin throw.

However, the multi-event athlete proved he is more than just the long jumper, scoring 6594 points on Thursday and Friday to take the crown and claim the best score in the west region.

Amongst setting a new personal best score in the Decathlon, the Cupertino native earned personal bests in four events: high jump, 400m, discus, and pole vault. His improvement in four separate events shows his versatility on the track and in the field.

Ausbie currently holds the eleventh-best Decathlon score in the nation, with over a month to go before participants are cemented on the NCAA Outdoor Championships list. However, before Ausbie can entirely turn his focus to the national stage, he can use his talents to lead the Chico State Wildcats to a CCAA title in just three weeks.
