CHICO, Calif. - The Wildcats had some work to do after their tight two-point win over the Sharks on Monday, hosting the Penguins of Dominican in another non-conference matchup against a PacWest opponent. Taking care of the ball offensively and poor shooting from the visitors helped the 'Cats to a 77-61 win at home.
A collectively strong first half awarded the 'Cats with an early 20-point lead heading into the halftime break. Shooting an impressive 55 percent from the field allotted the Wildcats a heavy advantage after sinking 16 buckets, adding 12 free throws in the opening half.
The Wildcats held the Penguins to a season-low for opponents, holding them to a 44-percent shooting percentage and only allowing three baskets from long range.
Jojo Murphy, Miles Daniels, and Isaiah Kerr all had a hand in the team's offense, scoring 14 points each in Friday night's win.
Defensively, Kerr added two blocks while Daniel's and Murphy forced seven turnovers combined. The team forced twenty Penguin turnovers while only giving over the ball eight times.
Trae Taylor added 11 points, and Caden Harris scored nine more.
On Friday, the Penguins were having trouble with staying out of foul trouble, earning the Wildcats 19 shots at the line, sinking seventeen of them.
Extending to 3-2 on the season, the Wildcats will open up the CCAA Conference season after the fall break in Humboldt, taking on the Lumberjacks in Arcata on November 30th. Tip off is at 5 p.m. at Lumberjack Arena.
