CHICO, Calif. - In their second CCAA Conference matchup, the Wildcats continued to claw their way into the lead, but the Toros proved resilient.
Following an impressive tie with the No.2 Golden Eagles, Chico State hosted a Dominguez Hills side that opened up their season with a tie against Stanislaus State.
A game that started with the Chico State knocking on the Toros' door rewarded the Wildcats with a 7th-minute penalty kick that Miles Rice calmly slotted away as the keeper tried getting in the senior's head.
Unfortunately, the visitors were able to find an equalizer with 20 seconds left on the clock before the halftime break.
The Wildcats found a spark in the second half, earning another penalty kick in the Toros' box, and Miles Rice calmly converted for his second goal of the game. Rice grabbed his fourth and fifth goals of the season with his two crucial conversions from the spot.
Preston Moll almost added another goal in the 65th minute after a corner kick was swung around short across the top of the box— the ball found his striking left foot that headed for the bottom right corner but deflected at the last moment.
A quick response from the visitors saw them striking in their second goal of the match to draw the game level at 2-2 in the 65th minute.
Chico State kept pushing the ball forward, hoping for the go-ahead goal, but couldn't quite beat the CSUDH keeper and a strong backline that seemed to collapse on all opportunities.
The Wildcats pick up a second tie in their opening two matches of the conference season; with plenty of games to go in the season, the 'Cats will need to grab points on their road trip next week. Their record jumps to 6-1-2 on the season and 0-0-2 in CCAA conference play.
Chico State men's soccer's first road trip in three weeks will have them traveling to San Francisco State on Friday, followed by a Sunday showdown in Monterey against the Otters.
