Wildcats Refuse to Be Bucked by Broncos

Moll Scores In Second Half, Forcing a Tie at Home

CHICO, Calif. - The conference season is coming to a close for the Chico State men's soccer team, and they faced one of their toughest challenges on Friday night hosting Cal Poly Pomona.

A program that boasts a long history of national tournament runs, the Wildcats knew it would be a scrappy battle at University Soccer Stadium.

In the 10th minute, the Broncos picked up the ball of a defensive turnover, resulting in the visitors gaining an early 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats knew plenty of time left on the clock and continued to press the ball up the field to create any opportunity to draw the game level. In the final seconds of the first half, Preston Moll whipped a cross into the box in hopes of a Wildcat connecting with the ball—Sylas Sells was that Wildcat, heading home the tying goal with single digits on the clock left in the first half.

Shortly into the second half, the Broncos had a red card shown towards a player, giving the home side a player advantage with over a half-an-hour left to play.

The offensive push continued from Chico State, as dangerous crosses were thrown towards the CPP net; Josh Moll was able to strike the leading goal off a loose ball in the 71st minute.

Emanuel Padilla made incredible saves in Friday's match to keep the game within reach for this team, with an outstanding double save in the 51st minute to hold the Broncos at bay.

An unlucky response from the visitors saw the game tied at 2-2 in the 78th minute.

The game would remain tied until the final whistle, with the Wildcats remaining in the conference's top four teams. Their record extends to 9-2-3 (3-1-3 CCAA) with four more games remaining in the regular season.

Senior day is this Sunday at University Soccer Stadium as the Wildcats host Cal State San Bernardino in a crucial matchup in their final game at home. The kickoff against the Coyotes is at 2 p.m., and the senior celebration will take place before the start of the game.
