VANCOUVER, B.C. - Kristoffer Brown did precisely what a substitute is tasked with when they enter the pitch for their shift, which is making an immediate impact on the flow of the game. After being in for a measly twelve minutes, Justin Ricketts picked out a waiting Brown posted up at the edge of SFU's six-yard box, punching that ball at and through the waiting keeper's gloves. The duo that came off the bench gave the Wildcats more energy with their heroics, leading them to their third win in three games already this season.
Despite the first-half lead by the Wildcats, the hosts were in no way push-overs as they forced Emanuel Padilla to make six saves to maintain another shutout. Padilla and the Wildcat's backline refuse to let the ball fall into their net as they secure their third shutout this season. Only one other CCAA team has yet to concede a goal.
It was an even matchup between the Red Leafs and the Wildcats, firing 17-16 shots with the scale tipping toward the 'Cats.
The second half played out the same way as the first, with both teams peppering shots and knocking on the door of both nets. In typical fashion this season, the Wildcats struck again, doubling their lead with another Kristoffer Brown goal in the 56th minute after lifting a loose ball that just got away from Bryan Manriquez in the box into the right-side netting with his left boot.
Brown, who is no stranger to scoring for the Wildcats, opened his scoring account this season and notched his first brace of his college career.
Miles Rice and Brown led the 'Cats in shots with three and two on goal. Four other Wildcats tallied two tries each, adding to the strong attacking presence that the Red Leafs felt throughout the match.
Chico State improves to a 3-0 record with three wins all over GNAC opponents, which leads them to one final regular season non-conference matchup against Saint Martin's on Saturday. They will be facing off against the Saints in Vancouver at SFU Stadium at Terry Fox Field; kickoff will be at 3:30 pm.
