CHICO – The Chico State volleyball team got off to a promising start in its home opener by winning the first game, but confident Sonoma State clicked it into fifth gear and routed the 'Cats in four sets (25-21, 13-25, 15-25, 14-25) Friday evening.
The Wildcats fall to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in the CCAA while the Seawolves, winner of seven straight, improves to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Brooke Ono ended the night with 17 assists and 15 digs for her second straight double-double and her fourth on the season. Lexi Carpenter had 10 digs on the other side of the ball Zoe DiNardo had 13 kills.
The first set was close until a five-point run by Sonoma State gave the Seawolves their largest lead in the opening round. Chico State responded after that by winning 10 of the final 13 rallies to win the opening game, 25-21.
Chico State hit .167 in the opening game with 10 kills.
The Wildcats return to Acker Gym to welcome Cal Poly Humboldt Saturday at 5 p.m. The Jacks came off a five-set win over Stanislaus State south of the 99 Highway.
