SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - A set piece sent in by Adrian Fontanelli connects with the head of Carson Zarate that sneaks past the Yotes, securing the 'Cats another conference win. The 3rd best team in the nation improves their record with another win against a CCAA opponent improving to 2-0-2 and 9-0-2 overall.
Zarate has scored two goals this season, with both being the decider in the Wildcats' wins against Biola and now CSUSB. He was left free to win the floating cross from Fontanelli, directing the ball towards the ground and bouncing off of a Yotes defender into the net.
The No. 25 Yotes gave the No. 3 team in the nation a tough time finding the go-ahead goal, outshooting their visitors 13-8 shots. Emanuel Padilla made four saves in Sunday's match, securing his ninth shutout after eleven games this season.
Brian Manriquez was an offensive standout for the 'Cats, taking three shots and leading his team in applying pressure on the home side.
The 73rd-minute game-winner earns Fontanelli his third assist this season and the Wildcats continue to capitalize on set-piece opportunities this season.
On the defensive side, Preston Moll and Jacob Burnison led the back line to another shutout, dealing with a technical Yotes offense and the heat in San Bernardino.
Saving the shutout once again in the 84th minute, Emanuel Padilla shows the reason why he is one of the best keepers in the nation. After a foul in the box that resulted in a Yotes penalty kick, Padilla made an outstanding save for the third time this season with the shot only 12 yards away.
Padilla has saved every penalty kick that has been taken against him this season, something almost unprecedented in the game of soccer.
After their win on Sunday, the Wildcats sit in fourth in the CCAA after their weekend in Southern California, tying the Broncos and securing the win in their final road trip down south.
They will travel to Sonoma to face off against the Seawolves in conference play on Thursday, Oct. 12th, with kickoff at 3 p.m. and will be live streamed on the CCAA Network.
