CHICO, Calif. - Coach Gary Towne holds one of the most extraordinary trophy collections at Chico State, boasting many CCAA Conference Championship titles, West Regional titles, and individual honors. Coach Towne keeps adding to his collection with a pair of CCAA Championship titles and is now the CCAA Coach of the Year for the 2023 season.

He has now been named the CCAA Coach of the Year 36 times in his 28 years with the Wildcats, and after sweeping this year's conference championships, it is again well deserved.

This year's pair of titles now marks his 21st consecutive conference title for the men's program and the 17th for the women's side at Chico State. He successfully coached his women's team back to the top spot in the CCAA after two consecutive years without a title—this year was different as he led his Wildcats to incredible heights.

Coach Towne has built a strong culture not only on the trails and the track but among his runners, building an atmosphere that stresses athletic and academic success. His ability to mold champions is not something you see very often, but by emphasizing growth in all aspects of being a student-athlete, his runners succeed in all areas of their lives.

With two more conference titles on his shelf, Coach Towne and the Wildcats of Chico State cross-country look north at the NCAA West Regional meet on November 4th in Monmouth, Oregon.

The men's team is racing to collect their seventh West Regional title in a row while the women look to capture their first West Regional win since 2019.
