About a season-and-a-half into her collegiate soccer career, Chico State goalkeeper Emma Hofmann is already hitting some big milestones and locking down some of the program's biggest rivals. Hofmann was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday after posting a season-high eight saves in a 3-1 win at 22
nd-ranked Sonoma State on Friday and notching her fourth clean sheet of the season in a 1-0 win at San Francisco State Sunday.
Â
Hofmann leads the CCAA in saves percentage (.862) and goals-against average (0.533) and has posted 14 shutouts in 26 career starts. She already ranks fifth all-time at Chico State with those 14 shutouts, and her career goals-against average of 0.567 ranks atop Chico State's career list.
Â
In Friday's win at Sonoma State, Hofmann made six first-half saves as the Wildcats survived an early flurry against the two-time defending CCAA champions and the league's second-highest scoring side. The sophomore from Folsom (Folsom High School) faced six second-half corner kicks and two shots on goal in the second half, but kept the Seawolves off the scoreboard. She's now 2-0 against the rival Seawolves, having turned away 15 of their 16 shots on goal.
Â
Sunday at San Francisco State, Hofmann faced seven shots and three corner kicks and saved three shots.Â
Â
Chico State and Cal Poly Pomona were the only two teams to go 2-0-0 in the first week of CCAA play. The Broncos will be in town to take on the Wildcats Friday at 4:30 p.m. with first place on the line. Chico State will host Cal State LA on Sunday at 11:30.Â
