9/14/2022 3:44:00 PM

The Wildcat Family has always been one of the essential supporters of the Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry—the front door of Chico State's vital Basic Needs Project. With demands on the Pantry more than double this year, the Wildcat Family has the opportunity to help more than ever. And Saturday marks an excellent opportunity to step up. It's Chico State Athletics' "Pack The Pantry Night!"

Nearly 3,000 visitors have walked through the door of the Pantry this semester already as Chico State students (including some student-athletes) are relying on the program more than ever for food and other basic needs. Learn more here. The Department of Athletics has proudly helped champion the efforts of the Pantry and its awesome leadership since 2013. It has become an annual focus of support. This year, let's give like never before!

Fans are asked to bring nutritious food items, hygiene items, and/or can openers to Saturday's volleyball and soccer matches. The soccer doubleheader starts at 4:30 p.m. at University Soccer Stadium and volleyball match gets under way inside Acker Gym at 5 p.m. Tables will be set up to accept donations. Fans can also donate money on site or online using this link.

Currently about two-thirds of the shelf-stable food at the Pantry is strategically purchased through food bank and wholesale channels. The remaining is donated through the Chico Food Project, annual food drives like Saturday's, food rescue, and direct donations. Organic and sustainably grown produce is purchased through the University Farm's Organic Vegetable Project and other regional produce distributors.
