Wildcats Earn 8th Straight United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Honor

Boast highest team cumulative GPA among California’s public universities

8/3/2022 4:39:00 PM

For the eighth straight time and 12th in the past 13 seasons, the Chico State women's soccer team has earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award. The honor is presented to programs with a combined team GPA of 3.0 or better. The Wildcats were well above that threshold with a team GPA of 3.53, which is not only the highest in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, but also highest among all California public universities, regardless of division.

Chico State is among 14 NCAA Division II women's teams in the West Region and seven from the CCAA to earn the distinction. Chico State and Stanislaus State are the only two NCAA Division II West Region sides to have claimed the honor every season since 2012.

Chico State is one of 152 institutions across collegiate soccer, and one of three from the CCAA, to have both its men's and women's teams earn the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic honor.

Twenty-five members of the Chico State women's soccer team were announced Tuesday as winners of the CCAA All-Academic Award, Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award, or both. The CCAA All-Academic Award is given to student-athletes who posted a GPA of 3.40 or higher while completing at least 24 units during the 2021-22 academic year. The D2 ADA Academic Award is presented to student-athletes who have completed at least four semesters of college and boast a combined GPA of 3.50 or better.
