Scoreless Draw in Seattle Strong Result for Wildcats

Chico State limits host Falcons to 11 shots, and only four on goal

SEATTLE, Washington—The members of Chico State's men's soccer team no doubt dreamt of glorious goals and sweet victory leading up to the Wildcats' always anticipated West Region showdown at Seattle Pacific Thursday night. And a Chico State goal would have been nice. As would have been a victory. However, the team's veteran members will sleep well tonight knowing that their scoreless draw on the road at Interbay Stadium, against the defending Great Northwest Athletic Conference Champions, will likely serve them well as they jostle for postseason positioning in 2022.

Wildcats goalkeeper Luis Albarran made four saves on the way to his sixth career shutout, and Chico State's defense limited Seattle Pacific to 11 shots. Adrian Fontanelli fired off a team high three shots for the Wildcats, while Miles Rice led the way with a pair of shots on goal. Anthonky Kaskie came off the bench to collect the other shot on frame for the Wildcats, who piled up 13 shots in all.

The draw keeps the all-time series, fittingly, tied at 21-21-4. This was Chico State's first match played under the new collegiate soccer rule that takes away the two 10-minute overtime periods. So, after 90 minutes, the score was final.

Chico State will be back in action Saturday in another big showdown in the Pacific Northwest, taking on Western Washington University at 7 p.m. in Bellingham, Washington. Links to live stats and streaming video are on the men's soccer schedule page.

The Wildcats will host Saint Martin's and GNAC preseason favorite Simon Fraser on the weekend of Sept. 1.
