Thursday night's scheduled Chico State men's basketball game against Cal State Monterey Bay is canceled due to the University's COVID-19 protocols, in accordance with California Collegiate Athletic Association policy. The status of Saturday night's scheduled game against San Francisco State will be determined Friday. The women's basketball games are still scheduled to take place at 5:30 p.m. on both nights. 
 
On December 31, the CCAA announced a modified COVID-19 policy for canceled games. For the 2021–22 season, games canceled due to COVID-related circumstances are declared a 'no contest' rather than a 'forfeit.' Thus, Thursday's cancellation will not impact either teams' win-loss record, and will not be rescheduled. The changes align with NCAA standards.
 
The 10^th-ranked Wildcats (14-3 overall and 10-3 in the CCAA) are coming off a huge win against third-ranked Cal State San Bernardino Saturday night. Chico State, Cal State Monterey Bay, and Cal State San Marcos are all tied for second in the conference standings, one game behind Cal State San Bernardino.
