Chico State students, including student-athletes, rely more than ever on the program for nutritious food and other basic needs. This week marks another opportunity to help. Tables will be set up to accept donations at all 12 home basketball, softball and baseball games this week.

It’s Pack the Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry Week!

The goal this year is 10,000 items, which would break the CCAA record we set last year

2/21/2022 4:45:00 PM

Things were weird last February, but the Wildcat Family came out in force to help pack the Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry. Chico State's supporters gave the equivalent of 8,894 items, a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) February Food Drive record. Admittedly, things are still a bit strange, and the Pantry—the front door of Chico State's vital Basic Needs Project—is still teeming with students, including some student-athletes, who rely on the nutritious food provided there.

As a result, this week we are hoping to break the record we set last year by collecting the equivalent of 10,000 items in food, hygiene, and monetary donations. Chico State's Basic Needs Project and the Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry has become an annual focus of support for the Department of Athletics. There are many ways to donate this year:

You can donate monetarily HERE and every dollar will count for two items.
You can also drop off a donation at any of Chico State Athletics' 12 basketball, softball, and baseball games this weekend (see schedule below) or at the Pantry itself Monday through Friday until 3 p.m., or by calling 530-898-4098 to make arrangements.

All donations are accepted and appreciated. However, the Pantry aims to stock up on nutritious foods and desired items to support our Wildcats, and is especially in need of the following right now:
  • Canned proteins (chicken, fish)
  • Dry proteins (beans, lentils)
  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Canned soups
  • Pasta and pasta sauce
  • Nutritious snacks such as (protein bars)
  • Rice
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Soap and body wash
The Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry—located in room 196 of the Student Services Center—is one of the many services Basic Needs provides. If you are a student in need, please stop by the Pantry or fill out this Application for Assistance.

This marks the 12th year of the CCAA' annual food drive competition. Chico State has won the competition for two years in a row thanks to the generous contributions of Chico State supporters, student-athletes, staff, administrators, coaches, alumni, and more. More importantly, it has made a huge impact on Chico State's food-insecure population.

We need your help to make that kind of impact once again!

The Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry, founded in 2013 on the belief that all students should have access to healthy food, serves thousands of students per year. For more information, please visit https://basicneeds.csuchico.edu
