Kevin Warren is a serious young man. His face says it. He'll say it. He's always thinking. He doesn't do a whole lot of messing about. That translates to his time in the classroom as well. The fifth-year Wildcat from Oakland earned his bachelor's degree in communications with a minor in journalism and broadcasting in May of 2020. He is currently pursuing his master's degree in communication studies. Thursday, he earned the prestigious CoSIDA Academic All-District honor, presented to just five men's basketball players from the West Region and 45 in the entire nation.
Â
Warren is now among those eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced in mid-March. In order to be nominated, student-athletes must have a cumulative undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) GPA of 3.30 or higher. Warren has both covered by a wide margin.
Â
A guard on the 15-3 men's basketball team, ranked No. 11 in the nation ahead of Thursday night's game at Cal State LA, Warren is among the team's leaders in nearly every category, having started each of the Wildcats' past 69 games. He's a leader statistically—having recently eclipsed the 1,000-career points mark—and by example.
Â
"Kevin epitomizes what it means to be a student-athlete," said Chico State Head Coach Greg Clink. "He competes every day in everything he does, whether it's on the basketball court or in the classroom. I'm just really proud of him."
Â
Warren is a five-time California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Academic selection, a two-time Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award winner, a 2019–20 National Basketball Coaches Association Honors Court recipient, and was named the 2019–20 CCAA Men's Basketball Championship Scholar Award winner for having the highest GPA among all participants at the CCAA Championship Tournament.
