One season ago, the Chico State women's cross country team's streak of 12 straight California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) titles was closed out by a sensational Stanislaus State squad. Saturday in Carmel, the underdog 'Cats will attempt to claw their way back to the top against the 7^th-ranked Warriors.
 
The Wildcats, ranked No. 15 in the nation, will compete at the newly constructed Palo Corona Regional Park in Carmel. Race time is set for 10 a.m. Chico State will send a 10-woman squad of Jacqueline Cascione, Marissa D'Atri, Jaclyn Denham, Gracie Dupuis, Katie Hawley, Della Molina, Iresh Molina, Sophie Pelletier, Hannah Ryan and Hannah Tiffany to tackle the six-kilometer course.
 
The race, which starts one hour after the start of the men's championship race, will be streamed on the CCAA Network. A link to the broadcast, as well as a live results link, are available at www.ChicoWildcats.com in the calendar section on the homepage and on the cross country schedule pages. Access to the video stream requires a subscription fee granting users access to every event on the CCAA Network, home and away.
 
Chico State and Stanislaus State are not the only programs with a title in mind. Cal State East Bay is ranked No. 29 in the nation, and Cal Poly Pomona is ranked No. 10 in the West Region.
 
Dupuis, Ryan, and D'Atri each earned All-CCAA honors at last season's race. Dupuis' third-place finish was her second straight at the conference championship race. Denham and Hawley also competed in 2021. The rest of the Wildcats will be making their postseason race debuts.
 
Cross Country Team Scoring:
The top five runners from each team receive points corresponding to their finish. The first place runner receives one point, the second place runner two, and so on, and the team that finishes with the lowest score wins. Though they do not score for their own team, the sixth and seventh finishers on a team are also important, as they can still "displace" scoring runners from the other teams.
