WAHIAWA, Hawaii—The Chico State men's golf team wrapped up its fall 2022 schedule this week in Hawaii, and what a week it was! Three days after winning the Southwest Airlines Hawaii Pacific University Shark Shootout, the Wildcats posted a third-place finish against the same 16 teams at the Southwest Airlines Dennis Rose Invitational at Waikoloa Beach Course in Waikoloa, on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The Wildcats shot a 6-over-par 286 Saturday to finish the two-day affair at 11-over par. They finished six shots behind tournament co-championship University of Colorado Colorado Springs and Cal State San Marcos, in a three-way tie for third place with Sonoma State and Stanislaus State.
Tyler Ashman, Mark Noonan, and Dakota Ochoa each shot 1-over par (71) Saturday, while Travis Miller carded a 3-over-par 73 and Naoki Easterday a 4-over-par 74.
Ochoa grabbed his second top-five finish of the week in the process. He finished the tournament in a tie for fifth at 1-under par after finishing tied for third at the HPU Shark Shootout. Noonan, who tied for 20
th at the Shark Shootout, tied for 10
th at Waikoloa with a two-day total of 1-over par. Ashman, who tied for medalist honors earlier in the week, tied for 27
th Saturday at 5-over par.
The Wildcats are now off until February 13 when they kick off their spring campaign at the Cal State San Marcos Fujikura Invitational at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista.
