It's been an up-and-down fall campaign for the Chico State men's golf team, which began the year with a sixth-place finish, followed that up with a win in its home event, and then finished 14
th the last time out. The Wildcats will experience a few more changes in elevation this week thanks to a great opportunity to play two events in Hawaii. First they'll take part in the Southwest Airlines Hawaii Pacific University Sharks Shootout Tuesday and Wednesday at Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, on the island of Oahu. Then they'll take a short flight to the Big Island for the Southwest Airlines Dennis Rose Intercollegiate Friday and Saturday at Waikaloa Beach Golf Club in Waikoloa.
Chico State Head Coach Nick Green is taking a roster of Tyler Ashman, Mark Noonan, Travis Miller, Naoki Easterday, and Dakota Ochoa. Each event will be a 36-hole stroke play tournament with 18 holes being played each day and the top four scores from each five-man team counting toward the team score. Shotgun starts will take place each day at 4:30 a.m., Pacific (7:30 a.m. in Hawaii).
The same 16 teams will participate in both tournaments, ensuring that each features a challenging field. Ranked No. 40 in the nation by Golfstat, the Wildcats are one of a dozen teams ranked among the nation's top 51.
